Two up so quickly? Feeling artistic today 8D

Well, this was gonna be a moustache study, then it was gonna be a glasses study (because I figured I should try and make one of those study sheets that people do sometimes...) and, well, I kept thinking 'I'll just draw this little bit more because it looks interesting' so, inevitably, I ended up drawing most of it.

Did I ever say to you how Nikki Sixx's photography book, This Is Gonna Hurt, is pretty much an excuse for a bunch of epic refs? Well, here you are xD I was flicking through, finding something to draw, and randomly settled on this because of the moustache. I couldn't fit some of it in but I was just drawing the face anyway. Nikki's done some brilliant photographs...

This was pretty much just a once-over piece. I didn't bother with smudging or line art and instead just basically scribbled with the side of a 2B (and eventually 4B because I wore the 2B down so much) carbon pencil. A second brilliant find! Not only were they incredibly smooth to work with but I got the huge (to my mind) range of tone from just one pencil! It made it much easier (and a lot less scary) to really go for the deep shades. Seriously enjoyed this ^^ Particularly as it's just someone random and new. He has such an interesting face.

This is how my drawings look sometimes to start with and I smudge out all the sketching but I always think for a moment what it would be like if I just left it because I really like how this style looks. Maybe I'll do this more often? We'll see. My art's very spontaneous and it usually turns out better if I haven't really planned how I'm going to do it and I'm not following a formula, plan or system, etc. It's probably better that I stopped when I did because I start to get a little lost when I start changing focus to see shading, drawing it and then turning back to find I can't see it anymore and a totally different pattern of shading is in the same place... That happens all the time. It's weird, man xD

Time:1-2 hours
Equipment: 2B and 4B (when the 2B became too worn down) Wolffs carbon pencils.
